April 14, 2025 - 03:21 PM - Berks Weekly

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of roadwork projects across Berks County for the week of April 14, 2025. Work includes paving, bridge repairs, brush cutting, and ongoing construction on major highways. Drivers are encouraged to expect delays, obey flaggers and signage, and drive cautiously in all active work zones.

On Interstate 78, westbound traffic will face lane restrictions between Exit 29 (PA 61) and Exit 30 (Hamburg) on the night of April 16, followed by eastbound lane restrictions on April 17. Both restrictions will be in effect from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and are not expected to be impacted by rain.

A major milling and paving project is underway on Route 100 through Colebrookdale Township, Washington Township, and Bally Borough. Lane restrictions will occur in both directions between County Line Road and Old Route 100 during nighttime hours from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. starting April 14 and continuing through the end of November. Work includes road base replacement, paving, ADA curb ramps, drainage improvements, and more. The $4.7 million project is being led by H&K Group, Inc. Rain may delay operations.

In Reading and West Reading, eastbound traffic on US 422 will encounter daytime lane restrictions between the Penn Street and Lancaster Avenue exits for bridge repair. The work will take place from April 14 through April 18 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Brush cutting will be performed on the westbound side of Interstate 78 between Exit 30 (Hamburg) and Exit 35 (PA 143) in Tilden and Windsor Townships on April 14 and 15. Lane restrictions will be in place during daytime hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with delays likely. On April 17, additional brush cutting will occur on this stretch, though no formal restrictions are planned.

Northbound traffic on PA 61 between the Schuylkill County Line and Lowland Road in Tilden and Windsor Townships will face lane restrictions for brush cutting on April 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Rain may impact this work.

In Bern Township, lane restrictions with flagging will be in place along PA 183 (Bernville Road) between Plum Creek Road and North Heidelberg Road on April 14 and 15 for maintenance activities. Drivers should allow extra time when traveling through the area.

Richmond Township will see pothole patching along Maidencreek Road between PA 662 and Pleasant Hill Road on April 14 and 15. Lane restrictions will be in effect during daytime hours. A second round of patching is planned for April 17 and 18, again with lane restrictions and flagging from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
