PSP Fire Marshal launching community awareness series on fire safety and arson prevention

April 11, 2025 - 04:59 PM - Berks Weekly

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Fire Marshal Unit is launching a new community-focused presentation series aimed at raising awareness about fire safety and arson prevention. The initiative is open to the public and will be held at various locations across Berks and Lebanon counties, with additional events expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

According to PSP Reading, the program is designed to strengthen community relations and provide greater transparency about the work done by fire marshals. The presentations will include real-world examples and insights from investigations conducted in the same communities where the events are held.

Rather than focusing on statistics, the sessions will highlight common causes of fires encountered by PSP investigators and share lessons learned from past incidents. The goal is to reduce fire-related injuries and fatalities by equipping residents with practical prevention knowledge.

“This is a unique opportunity to gain insight and ask questions of experienced fire investigators,” said Trooper Janssen Herb. “The hope is that the community can leave with valuable information that could help prevent fires and save lives.”

The first event will be held at the Bernville Fire Company on April 16th at 7PM. Additional events: Spring Township Fire Station, in conjunction with the Spring Township Fire Marshal, will be April 24th at 7PM. Kempton Fire Company on May 6th at 7PM. Lyons fire Company on May 8th at 6PM. An event is also planned for the Kenhorst Fire Company, with dates to be announced.

The presentations are open to churches, schools, fire companies, municipalities, and other interested organizations. Those wishing to schedule a presentation or obtain more information are encouraged to contact Trooper Herb at jaherb@pa.gov or call 610-378-4224.
