The skies over Berks County will roar once again as the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum hosts its 34th Anniversary World War Two Weekend at Reading Regional Airport on June 6, 7, and 8, 2025. This year’s event also marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, drawing aviation enthusiasts, historians, and veterans from around the world.
Held on the grounds of the former General Carl A. Spaatz Army Airfield, the three-day event will feature flight demonstrations from authentic World War II aircraft, military reenactments, and period-themed entertainment. Organizers have assembled an impressive lineup of planes that will fly and be on display throughout the weekend.
Attendees can explore extensive Living History displays representing American, Allied, and Axis forces. Reenactors will be on hand to offer personal and educational insights into the experiences of soldiers on the front lines and civilians on the Homefront.
Entertainment will include performances by Frank Sings Frank, America’s Sweethearts, The Forecast Quartet, The Spirit of the Airways, and WRDG Radio. Big Band concerts are scheduled on both Friday and Saturday nights from 7 to 10 p.m., adding a musical backdrop to the weekend’s celebration.
A highlight of this year’s airshow will be the appearance of a historic North American Aviation P-51C Mustang, once owned by famed actor and World War II bomber pilot James “Jimmy” Stewart. The aircraft is known for its record-setting flight on March 29, 1949, when it traveled nonstop from Burbank, California, to New York City in just over five hours. It was later owned by aviator Jackie Cochran, who used it to set additional speed records before returning it to Stewart.
The Mustang also played a unique role in history, transporting footage of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953 from Newfoundland to U.S. television networks for broadcast. The aircraft will be on static display and featured in flight during the show.
