Two adults are facing charges after two juveniles were found lost and suffering from early symptoms of hypothermia in a wooded area near Tulpehocken Creek on Saturday evening.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were dispatched to the area of 173 Forge Road in Marion Township, Berks County, at approximately 8:43 p.m. on March 29. Upon arrival, they located the two juveniles, a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old female from Myerstown, who had reportedly become disoriented while kayaking.
State Police say the juveniles showed signs of intoxication and were believed to be under the influence of alcohol. Troopers provided on-scene care while awaiting the arrival of emergency medical services and the juveniles’ parents.
Through further investigation, authorities learned that the juveniles had been in the care of two adults, identified as 21-year-old Isaac Vogel of Mohrsville and 20-year-old Alexis Vogel of Bernville. The pair allegedly provided the minors with alcohol and abandoned them in the woods without attempting to contact emergency services when the teens failed to return.
State Police say both Isaac and Alexis Vogel are facing charges including Endangering the Welfare of Children and Furnishing Alcohol to Minors.
It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The incident remains under investigation.
