At its Regular School Board meeting on Wednesday, March 26th 2025, the Reading School District Board of Directors approved the appointment of Dr. Khalid Mumin as the district’s next superintendent.
He will succeed Dr. Jennifer Murray, who will continue leading the district through June 13, 2025.
Dr. Mumin served as Reading School District’s Superintendent from 2014 to 2021 before taking on other leadership roles, including Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education. Most recently, he served as Chief of Strategy, Education Partnerships & Global Development at MindUP of The Goldie Hawn Foundation in Miami, Florida.
He holds a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education in Teaching & Curriculum from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Shippensburg University.
“I am elated to return to the Red Knight family, as we continue our great work with passion and purpose to prepare our students for infinite possibilities of success”, said Dr. Mumin.
“The Board of Directors is excited to welcome Dr. Mumin back to Reading,” said Dr. Noahleen Betts, Board President. “There will be a seamless transition as Dr. Mumin continues the progress made by my fellow Board Members, Dr. Murray and her Administration over the last three and a half years. We thank Dr. Murray for leading the District and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
In February, Dr. Murray informed the board of her decision to step down at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. She has served as superintendent since 2021 and has been with the Reading School District in various roles for 26 years. Her final day with the District is Friday, June 13th 2025.
Dr. Mumin will begin leading the district on Monday June 16, 2025.
