Jason Bowen has announced his candidacy for Magisterial District Judge, seeking to fill the position following the upcoming retirement of Judge Dean Patton, who has served in the role for 25 years.

Bowen, a sergeant with the Muhlenberg Township Police Department, brings over two decades of law enforcement experience to his candidacy. Currently overseeing the department’s night shift, he cites his background in handling complex investigations and high-pressure situations as key qualifications for the judicial position.

“My experience provides me with an unparalleled understanding of the challenges facing our community,” Bowen said in his announcement.

A graduate of the Montgomery County Police Academy in 1998, Bowen’s career in public service began with six years of active duty in the United States Navy, followed by two years in the Inactive Ready Reserve. He believes this diverse background has equipped him with both legal expertise and the empathy necessary for fair judicial decision-making.

“As your Magisterial District Judge, I will strive to apply the law fairly and consistently, ensuring that justice is served while also recognizing the complexities of each individual case,” Bowen stated.

Bowen emphasized his commitment to upholding constitutional principles and noted his established relationships with the Muhlenberg Township Police Department and the District Attorney’s office, which he says would ensure a smooth transition and efficient court operations if elected.

Beyond his professional life, Bowen is active in the community. He is a member of the Berks Lodge #71 Fraternal Order of Police, Crime Alert Berks County, and serves as a trustee at the Temple Fire Co. Social Quarters. He also supports several charitable organizations, including St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, The Tim Tebow Foundation, and Furry Friends of the Panhandle Rescue.

Bowen will appear on the ballot in the primary election on May 20.
