The City of Reading is showing its support for the Philadelphia Eagles as they prepare for the Super Bowl by lighting up key landmarks in green. City Hall, the Penn Street Bridge, city-owned buildings at North Fifth and Penn streets, and the William Penn Memorial Fire Tower on Mount Penn will all be illuminated in the team’s colors.
Mayor Eddie Morán encouraged city employees to join in the celebration by wearing their favorite NFL jerseys or T-shirts Friday. City Hall staff marked the occasion with a group photo Friday morning, gathering in their gear at the Washington Street entrance of City Hall.
Beyond the visible show of support, the city is also launching a fundraising effort benefiting two charitable organizations. Donations collected will be evenly split between the Eagles Autism Foundation and Special Olympics of Berks County. Both organizations are dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and promoting community inclusion. Residents interested in contributing can do so by visiting the Human Resources office at City Hall.
“We know how much sports bring communities together, and we want to show our support for the local team as they head to the biggest game of the year,” said Mayor Morán. “This is also an opportunity to give back to two great causes that hold a special place in my heart, especially the Special Olympics of Berks County. Their work in empowering individuals with disabilities is truly inspiring, and I’m proud that our city can contribute to their mission.”
The city is encouraging residents and businesses to join in the festivities by displaying green lights or wearing team apparel as Philadelphia heads to the Super Bowl.
