Councilor Vanessa Campos announces bid for City Council President

District 1 Councilor Vanessa Campos has officially announced her candidacy for City Council President, emphasizing her experience in public service and commitment to strengthening local government.

Campos, who has served on the Reading City Council, highlights her background in municipal governance, having completed voluntary courses in local government and budgeting. She has also been actively engaged with city departments, boards, and officials, working to maintain open communication with constituents.

Beyond her council duties, Campos serves on the boards of the Reading Recreation Commission, the Redevelopment Authority, and the Nominations & Appointments Committee. Her professional experience includes over a decade in the Reading School District, where she has held roles such as department head, committee chair, literacy coach, and intern supervisor. Additionally, she is a licensed real estate agent and a catechist teacher at her local church.

Campos is also involved in local politics, serving as an executive board member of both the Berks County Democratic Committee and the Greater Reading PAC.

In her bid for City Council President, Campos said she aims to strengthen the council’s legislative role through proactive policy approaches. Her priorities include enhancing council operations with modern practices, promoting efficiency and accessibility, and focusing on financial stability and growth for the city.

“My goal is to promote the vitality of a city where we can invest, enjoy, and live!” Campos said in her announcement.

The election for City Council President will take place later this year.
