The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today that a new state-of-the-art Driver License Center is now open in Exeter Township. This new center will provide a convenient location for driver license and ID transactions, including same-day REAL ID services. Watch the event livestream.
“Governor Shapiro has made it clear that the Commonwealth should help people succeed, not get in the way. Under his direction, PennDOT is working to make our services more accessible and effective for the people of Pennsylvania. The new driver license center in Exeter Township demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of Pennsylvanians,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “There has been a clear need for some time for additional services in the Reading area, and this new center will make driver licensing and REAL ID services more accessible and convenient for the community. We’re proud that we can enhance our services to better serve our residents.”
The new Driver License Center is located at 4365 Perkiomen Avenue in Exeter Township. Hours of operation for the new facility will be Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM. The new facility is conveniently located and offers ample parking, a large customer waiting area, and additional processing and photo counters.
The existing location at 530 E. Lancaster Avenue in Shillington will remain open.
In addition to standard driver licensing and photo services, the new location has been built to federal REAL ID facility security standards, so customers can bring their REAL ID documentation and receive their REAL ID driver’s license or ID card over the counter at the time of service.
More than 2.5 million Pennsylvanians have chosen to opt into the REAL ID program. Getting a REAL ID is optional in Pennsylvania, but beginning May 7, 2025, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID-compliant license/identification card, or another form of federally acceptable identification (such as a valid passport or military ID) to:
Board domestic commercial flights. Enter a military base. Enter certain federal facilities that require a federally acceptable form of ID.
If you’re not sure whether a REAL ID is right for you, our REAL ID online wizard may be able to help. More information about REAL ID document requirements can be found on PennDOT’s REAL ID website.
UniqueSource Products & Services, which has been partnering with PennDOT for decades, is continuing that relationship at the new Exeter location. As with PennDOT’s other locations, UniqueSource will provide work opportunities for people with disabilities as photo ID technicians.
“We are thrilled to participate in this grand opening with PennDOT,” said Lisa Biggica, President & CEO, UniqueSource Products & Services. “Today, over 600 Pennsylvanians with disabilities are proudly serving as Photo License Technicians through UniqueSource’s partnership with PennDOT. Our team is excited to extend exceptional service to PennDOT’s Exeter customers at this new location. This partnership is a testament to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s ongoing commitment to creating competitive employment opportunities for people with disabilities. We are proud to celebrate this success alongside you.”
