The Wyomissing Police Department has announced the arrest of Steven P. Najarian, a Sinking Spring resident, in connection with a sexual assault investigation. Najarian faces charges of rape and related offenses after an extensive investigation revealed disturbing allegations of grooming and unlawful sexual conduct involving a juvenile female.
According to authorities, the alleged incidents occurred at a novelty store within the Berkshire Mall, located at 1665 State Hill Road in Wyomissing. Police believe Najarian exploited his position to groom the victim, leading to the unlawful encounters.
Given the nature of the allegations, detectives suspect there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward. The department is actively encouraging anyone with information to assist in the investigation. Detective Joseph Klatt, the lead investigator on the case, can be reached at (610) 816-9874. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous may submit tips through the Wyomissing Police Department website or via Crime Alert Berks at (877) 373-9913.
Chief of Police John G. Phillips emphasized the department’s commitment to community safety, “the Wyomissing Police Department reminds the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or suspected crimes to the police immediately. Additionally, parents and guardians are encouraged to have open conversations with their children about personal safety and recognizing dangerous situations.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
