Reading School District Board appoints Dr. Portia Slaughter as Assistant Superintendent of Operations

The Reading School District Board of Directors approved the appointment of Dr. Portia Slaughter as the district’s next Assistant Superintendent of Operations at its voting meeting on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Dr. Slaughter brings extensive educational leadership experience to the position, having most recently served as Assistant to the Superintendent in the Harrisburg School District. In this role, she oversaw all components of the K-12 instructional program and provided guidance and supervision to directors, supervisors, principals, coordinators, and building leaders to promote continuous improvement.

Additionally, Dr. Slaughter’s career includes principal roles at several schools, including Rowland Academy and Camp Curtin Academy in Pennsylvania, and Midtown Academy in Largo, Florida. She earned a doctoral degree in education from the American College of Education in 2023 and holds a master’s degree in education from Florida A&M University. Dr. Slaughter is certified in Pennsylvania with a Commission Qualification Letter and Principal PK-12 certification.

Dr. Slaughter is expected to begin her new role in January 2025.
