RAWA calls for 10-15% reduction in water use due to prolonged dry weather

The Reading Area Water Authority has issued a Mandatory Conservation Notice for the City of Reading and surrounding service areas due to a prolonged period of dry weather and lack of precipitation over the past few months. RAWA is urging residents to reduce their water use by 10 to 15 percent to address the ongoing situation.

The conservation notice includes specific restrictions to curb unnecessary water usage. The following activities are now prohibited: Watering of lawns and outdoor areas. Watering golf courses. Washing vehicles, paved surfaces, or other outdoor areas. Filling or topping off swimming pools. Any act that wastes water.

RAWA emphasized that the current water shortage is a result of insufficient rainfall, with no significant precipitation expected over the next five to seven days. The water authority will provide regular updates on the situation via their website and telephone services.

In addition to these mandatory restrictions, RAWA encourages residents to practice water conservation at home. For helpful water-saving tips, residents can visit Water Conservation Tips.
