In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), Threshold Rehabilitation Services, Inc. hosted its annual Celebrate Abilities Awards Luncheon on October 15 at the DoubleTree in Reading, PA. The event recognized local employers, partners, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities in the workplace and community.

NDEAM, an initiative by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), promotes awareness of disability employment issues and celebrates the diverse contributions of workers with disabilities across the nation. Each October, Threshold joins the national observance by celebrating those who advance opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Berks County and surrounding areas.

The Employer of the Year award was presented to Michael’s in Temple for their commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for employees with disabilities. Through their partnership with the Berks Personnel Network, a division of Threshold’s Employment Services, Michael’s has not only facilitated the effective employment of individuals with disabilities but also significantly contributed to their personal and professional growth. The company’s leadership and staff were commended for fostering a culture of understanding, respect, and empowerment.

Two individuals were honored with the Distinguished Service Award for their dedication to supporting individuals in Threshold’s programs. Lauren Scharadin, MA, LPC of Community Care Behavioral Health, and Brenda Beam, PTA of Powerback Rehabilitation to You, were recognized for their outstanding efforts to enhance the lives of those they serve.

Alan Young of Leesport Fastenal received the Distinguished Community Partner Award for his contributions to providing community experiences, connections, and opportunities that benefit individuals supported by Threshold programs. His efforts have helped bridge gaps and create valuable links within the community.

The luncheon also celebrated the personal accomplishments of eight individuals who participate in Threshold’s programs. Each was awarded a Personal Outcomes Achievement Award for making strides toward their personal goals, many of which related to community engagement and employment. Additionally, one program participant received the prestigious Spirit of Threshold Award for exceptional progress toward independence in the community.

Threshold recognized the dedication of its own team by presenting Excellence in Service awards to eight staff members for their continued commitment to those they support. The event also included the presentation of The Ronald L. Williams Memorial Award to the Information Technology Department, consisting of Justin Loose (CIO), Bailee Daniels (Network Manager), Ousmane Sylla (Application Support Specialist), and Frank Wilder (IT Support Specialist). This award honors achievement and innovation in new business development or service delivery.
