The Berks County Conservation District’s Mosquito-Borne Disease Program has announced that ultra-low volume mosquito control operations will take place in Exeter Township and portions of the City of Reading this week to combat rising populations of adult mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus.
In Exeter Township, the spraying is scheduled to begin around dusk on Tuesday, September 10th. The affected areas include residential and recreational zones south of Route 422. The following evening, on Wednesday, September 11th, a similar mosquito control operation will be conducted in the City of Reading, focusing on the residential and recreational areas on the eastern side of the city including Pendora Park, City Park, and 10th and South Playground.
The spraying will be carried out using truck-mounted ULV equipment. The product used, AquaDuet, will be applied at a rate of 0.6 ounces per acre or less. This product is designed to provide a fast knockdown of adult mosquitoes and effectively reduce their populations. Both operations will be supervised on-site by licensed applicators from the Berks County Conservation District.
Weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances may delay or cancel the scheduled sprays. If postponed, the Exeter Township operation will be rescheduled for Wednesday, September 11th, while the City of Reading spray will move to Thursday, September 12th.
Residents in the target areas are encouraged to stay indoors and close windows and doors during the spraying to minimize contact with the chemicals. The products used are EPA-approved and are applied in compliance with all federal and state regulations to ensure public safety.
Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Mosquito-Borne Disease Program at (610) 372-4657 ext. 216.
