Reading Area Water Authority Issues Emergency Water Restrictions Amid Drought

Alert issued: Thursday, November 14 2024 - 06:08 PM

The Reading Area Water Authority (RAWA) has issued an emergency water restriction notice, calling for immediate conservation efforts across Reading and nearby areas. A mandatory 15% reduction in water usage is now required, effective immediately, in response to prolonged dry conditions and a lack of rainfall in recent months.

The restrictions prohibit specific water-intensive activities, including watering lawns, golf courses, and outdoor areas; washing vehicles or paved surfaces; filling or topping off swimming pools; and any other non-essential use of water. RAWA emphasized that the only solution to the current shortage is rainfall, which forecasts predict will not occur in the next five to seven days.

The authority urges residents to take this situation seriously and follow the guidelines to conserve water. Updates on the water restrictions and additional conservation tips will be available on the RAWA website and through their phone service.

For more information on these emergency restrictions and how to conserve water, residents are encouraged to visit the RAWA website.
