Reading firefighters responded to a house fire involving several homes in the 1300 block of Perkiomen Ave Thursday evening. Heavy smoke and flames were reported, with fire spreading to two structures and reaching the rear alley. A 2nd alarm was eventually struck, bringing firefighters from neighboring departments.
Searches of the homes were negative. One firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The fire is now under control with extensive overhaul underway. The Red Cross is assisting affected residents.
