Delaware Fugitive Captured in Berks County

A man wanted by Delaware authorities on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and assault, was taken into custody in Berks County on Friday morning.

John Charles Bell, 60, of St. Clair, Pennsylvania, was the subject of a public alert issued by the Delaware State Police on Thursday. Authorities had been searching for Bell after an alleged assault in Georgetown, Delaware, on March 5. He was believed to be traveling to Pennsylvania in a burgundy Ford Taurus with an unknown Pennsylvania registration.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers began searching for the vehicle on Friday morning. At approximately 8:58 a.m., Sgt. Cory Mengel located a matching vehicle near State Route 61 and Cabela Drive in Tilden Township. Troopers conducted a felony traffic stop and took Bell into custody without incident.

Bell was transported to Berks County Central Booking on fugitive from justice charges. A detainer was issued from the state of Delaware, and he will remain in custody until authorities extradite him to face charges.

Delaware State Police had reported that previous attempts to locate or contact Bell had been unsuccessful before his capture in Berks County.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the charges Bell faces in Delaware.
